REPUBLICAN ANETTE CARLISLE
ANNOUNCES CAMPAIGN FOR
TX STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION
Long-Time Amarillo School Board President and
Community Leader Says Our State Needs
Stronger Schools for a Stronger Texas
Amarillo, TX, November 8, 2011—Anette Carlisle, long-time Amarillo School Board Trustee, will announce her campaign for the State Board of Education, District 15, Wednesday, November 9th, at 1:30 pm in the Amarillo Independent School District Board Room, 7200 I-40 West, where she has served as trustee for the past 16 years.
“I am honored to have the enthusiastic support of our outgoing incumbent, my friend, Bob Craig,” says Republican Anette Carlisle. “I care about our kids, I care about our communities, and I care about our economy. When elected to the State Board of Education, I will use my experience to help our children and build the future of Texas.”
Anette is proud to be introduced by her fellow community leaders at the announcement: businessman Austin, vice-president of Amarillo ISD Board of Trustees; Dr. Russell Lowery-Hart, Vice-President of Academic Affairs of Amarillo College and president of Panhandle Twenty/20; and Mayor Paul Harpole, with a closing statement from former AISD trustee and community leader, Alice O’Brien.
District 15 of the State Board of Education covers 77 counties of West Texas. “This is my home, and I love the people of West Texas,” says Carlisle. “I know the challenges facing our communities, and education is the one and only way to ensure our future success as a region. That is why I have spent the past 16 years on the Amarillo ISD Board and the last ten years working on Panhandle Twenty/20, so we can create a more vibrant future.”

Anette has a long history of involvement in the community, in governance, and in working to make a better Texas. A native of Borger and a graduate with both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s of Science from Texas Tech University, Anette is founder and Director of Panhandle Twenty/20, where she led the first community study focused on improving educational attainment in the region. This effort led to the formation of the
Texas Panhandle P-16 Council, the launch of Celebrate Education, and the Pursuing Real Opportunities project that helps students gain real-world experience through internship programs with local businesses. This work by Panhandle Twenty/20 played a critical role in the Amarillo Area Foundation receiving the Partners for Postsecondary Success Grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Anette’s work with Panhandle Twenty/20 also focuses on moving people out of poverty. As a trained Poverty Coach, Anette works with organizations and churches in the community to connect volunteer mentors to low-income families and help them navigate their way out of poverty. Anette helped bring this innovative Navigator Program to the area with the community’s first Opportunity Conference in 2010.
Anette is also cofounder of Trustees for Texas, a statewide organization focused on transforming public education in Texas.
“Our children need to have a world-class education, and Texas should be the shining star for educating the nation. Instead, we have spent far too much time and energy labeling our schools, too focused on testing, rather than turning our students into 21st century learners and global leaders.”
“We need STRONGER SCHOOLS FOR A STRONGER TEXAS.
It’s about our kids. It’s about our communities. It’s about our economy.
Texas students need a great education to be competitive in the job market of the future.
Schools should belong to the communities they serve; not to a distant government bureaucracy. Education is our number one economic development tool for a stronger Texas. Stronger schools lead to a stronger economy for our great state.”
Married to J. Taylor Carlisle, M.D. for 32 years, the couple has raised three boys, all products of the public school system in Amarillo.
Anette already has several trips scheduled to visit communities across District 15.
